Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Carrowkeel (athlone North By. Turrock Ed), County Roscommon, Ireland. The circular grass platform measures thirty metres NNW-SSE and twenty-nine metres ENE-WSW on a gentle SE-facing slope. A grass-covered earthen bank defines the NE-SSE edge, while an outer fosse and NE entrance leave slight traces. Two other raths stand nearby to the east and south-southwest.
On a gentle SE-facing slope. Circular grass-covered platform (diam. 30m NNW-SSE; 29m ENE-WSW) defined by a grass-covered earthen bank best preserved, although probalby renewed, NE-SSE (at ENE: Wth 4.3m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.3m) and largely reduced to a scarp (at WSW: H 1.3m) elsewhere. There are slight traces of an outer fosse (Wth of base 1.3m) NNE-ENE and an entrance (Wth 2m) at NE. Rath (RO047-014001-) is c. 150m to the E and rath (RO047-012001-) is c. 100m to the SSW. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
