Excavation revealed two Early Neolithic pits inside an early medieval enclosure in County Kilkenny. Dated to 3625-3373 cal BC, they held pottery, a small stone adze or axe, flint debitage, rubbing stones, burnt hazelnut shells and emmer wheat. The arrangement suggests ritual activity rather than ordinary waste.

Excavated in 2006 in advance of the N9/N10 Waterford to Kilcullen Road Improvement Scheme (Excavation licence no. E2510). Two Early Neolithic pits located within the interior of and early medieval enclosure (KK036-065----). Radiocarbon dates of 3625-3373 cal BC (UBA-13484) were returned. The pits contained Neolithic artefacts such as pottery, a small stone adze or axe, flint debitage and rubbing stones. These were placed in the pits with organic remains (burnt hazelnut shells and emmer wheat) in such a way as to suggest ritual activity.
