What is recorded here

Indicated is a ruined ringfort in County Galway grassland, not a mysterious new name but a human-made rath near the River Suck. Its shallow circular shadow still lies beside the water, marked by a southern scarp and rubble from later field work. Whatever lived there has been reduced to a faint line in the land, yet the shape remains clear enough to stop a wandering mind and hold it for a moment.
In grassland 150m SW of the River Suck. Poorly preserved subcircular rath (E-W 45m, N-S 39m) defined by a scarp quarried out at S, and overlain by field-clearance rubble at SW. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
