Durrow graveyard holds a 17th century graveslab for Francis Derenci, who died in 1665. The stone displays two stags drawn from the De Renzi coat of arms and now leans against an Armstrong burial wall after leaving the church interior. It is a small, sharp reminder that graves, families and buildings all move when people believe they understand the shape of a place.

National Monument No. 313. In centre of Durrow graveyard (OF009-004009-), a late 18th century church possibly built on the site of a medieval church (OF009-005013-) which according to Davies (ITA Survey 1942) was mainly rebuilt in 1802. This church has been recently conserved by the OPW and during the conservation works a 17th century graveslab belonging to the De Renzi family of Hollow House (OF009-023---) in the townland of Ballynasrah or Tinnycross was moved from inside the church and has now been placed up against the W face of the W wall of an 18th century burial enclosure of the Armstrong family located in NE quadrant of graveyard. This graveslab bears the inscription 'Here Lyeth the body of Francis Derenci who dyed in Tinicros in the yeare of our Lord God 1665'. It is decorated with two stags, which were inspired by the de Renzy coat of arms (De Courcy Williams 1897, 137). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 22 April 2014
