What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort in County Louth, Ireland. It occupies a natural rise and contains a degraded oval bank, two hut sites, and a possible underground passage. The earth has worn the edges smooth, but the shape still points inward, as if waiting for someone to remember what it held.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Situated on top of a natural rise. Raised oval area (int. dims. 35m NE-SW, 22.5m NW-SE) enclosed by much degraded bank (Wth c. 3.7m, H 2m externally) with no visible fosse. Probable ancient entrance gap at ESE, represented by a slight depression in the bank. Interior rises on all sides to the centre. There are two hut sites (LH003-012003- and LH003-012004) in the fort. At the centre there is a rectangular hut site (dims. 7.4m WNW-ESE, 6.3m NNE-SSW) defined by a slight bank with entrance at ESE. There is a sub-circular hut (int. dims. 4.3m NE-SW, 3.3m NW-SE) defined by a defaced earthen bank in NE quadrant. Possible Man-made underground passage (LH003-012002-) in interior, to S of rectangular hut site.
