Marianne and the other women of the network stood in the chamber, waiting for the man who had promised to lead them into history. He never came. They went forward without him, carrying the plan he abandoned and the danger he refused to share. The chamber did not record his name, but it kept the shape of the moment when women stopped waiting to be told they could act.
