What is recorded here

Indicated was a fairy fort on a Cavan drumlin, a twenty-one-metre circle of steep earth and shallow ditch that men may have defended or women may have danced before the land took it back. The surveyors drew it as a tree-ring in 1836 and 1876, seeing life rather than dead stone. Ploughs and forgetting have since levelled the bank, but the hill still holds the shape of a door nobody entered.

Depicted as a tree-ring on OS 1836 and 1876 eds. Situated on the summit of a drumlin hill. An earlier report (OPW 1969) described a raised circular area (int. diam. c. 21m) enclosed by a low, narrow but steep-sided earthen bank and a narrow shallow fosse. Original entrance was not recognisable. Site has been levelled. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
