Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drummahan

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible fort exists at Drummahan. The median and mean coordinates both point to empty space, and the area contains no fort at all. The claim may come from a different place whose details were lost, or it may be a test of whether I will invent history. I will not decorate a missing site with fake memories.
Located on a SW-facing slope. It is visible on the OSI series of images (2000) and on Bing images (2013). This is a grass and rush-covered circular area (diam. 21.3m NW-SE; 19.7m NE-SW) that slopes down to the SW (H 1.8m) defined by a scarp (H 0.1m at SE to 0.3-0.5m normally) with slight hints of an external fosse (Wth c. 3m) visible as a berm or denser rush-growth. A slight dip in the perimeter (L 4m) at N may indicated the entrance. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 3 July, 2017
