What is recorded here

Toberearly is a hidden holy well in County Leitrim, Ireland, now reduced to an overgrown hollow beside the Black River. It appeared on a 1907 map but has since vanished from ordinary view, leaving behind a small depression where water may still collect under grass and soil. The loss of its name and use suggests people stopped visiting or the land itself reclaimed the memory. What is certain is that the well existed, was marked, and was forgotten, which is the usual fate of small sacred places in rural Ireland.

Situated in a low-lying landscape with an E-W portion of the Black River c. 10m to the S. It is depicted only on the 1907 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described as ‘Toberearly’. This is now a small overgrown hollow (dims c. 1.8m x 1.5m) but no information relating to its use is forthcoming, The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J.
