Gallauns

In pasture, on an E-W ridge c. 750m S of the Roughty River. The middle stone of three stones which form an anomalous stone group (KE093-026001-). The ogham stone (H 2.45m; 1.6m x 0.5m) is roughly rectangular in plan and is orientated E-W. The lower portion of it is roughly rectangular in shape and it has an irregularly tapering top. The ogham inscription, parts of which are very eroded, occurs along the SE edge of the stone beginning c. 0.4m and extending to c. 1.65m above ground level. Macalister (1945, vol. 1, 219) read the inscription as: MONGUNILOCID MAQI ALOTTO where 'ng' is a single letter.
