Grave Yd.

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Grave Yd. in Donaghmore, County Laois, holds post-1700 AD memorials inside a stone wall, though an earlier church and graveyard occupied the same ground before that date. The rectangular plot measures 45m north-south and 59m east-west, large enough for generations to settle beside one another under the same sky. Older bones may still lie beneath the soil, unnamed and unmarked, waiting for the patience of time rather than the pride of stone.
Situated in the village of Donaghmore. Church of Ireland church and graveyard built on site of earlier church with its associated graveyard. No headtsones pre-1700 AD visible. Rectangular shaped graveyard (int. dims. 45m N-S; 59m E-W) enclosed by a stone wall containing post 1700 AD memorials. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 17 December 2007
