Derreeny holds a flat boulder where light and heavy pocking mix with short curvilinear grooves. It stands beside a disused roadway in rough mountain pasture, overlooking the Kealduff river valley. Someone may have sat there, marking the rock while the valley moved below in shadow and rain.
The flat upper surface of this boulder, located on the N side of the disused roadway, measures 1.4m x .8m and is partially covered by vegetation. The boulder stands 1.2m high, and the carved motifs occupy a central position on its surface. Areas of light and heavy pocking are combined with a number of short curvilinear grooves (information: A. Purcell).
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 289. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

In rough, mountain pasture, on a SE-facing slope (156m OD), overlooking Kealduff river valley. According to Purcell (1993), this rock art site is just to N of a trackway. The trackway was located and a locus of inspection was carried out, yet this monument was not located. Described by Purcell (ibid), as a boulder (dims. 1.4m x 0.8m; H 1.2m) having a flat upper surface which is partially covered by vegetation. The carved motifs occupy a central location upon this rock surface and consist of areas of light and heavy pocking combined with a number of short curvilinear grooves (ibid; O’Sullivan & Sheehan (1996, 87; Entry 289).
