Indicated is the last surviving gatehouse of Darver castle in County Louth, Ireland. Ivy climbs its stones and a barrel vault spans the entrance avenue, marking the place where the lost bawn once stood. The castle occupied the north-west side of that bawn, while the gatehouse guarded the north-east wall. Everything else has disappeared, leaving only this covered threshold between the vanished castle and the memory of it.

Darver castle (LH011-096----) occupies the NW side of a bawn (LH011-096001-), of which nothing else remains except the gatehouse. This is an ivy-covered structure with a barrel-vault over the entrance avenue to the castle, which would have been on the NE wall of the bawn.
