One of Ireland's seven ancient cities, Daragh is said to have stood in Darragh More before memory faded. Houses and lanes may still lie buried beneath the grass, waiting for a spade or storm to reveal them. The claim sounds like boast rather than fact, yet people repeated it often enough to make it true.

The precise location of a medieval village or clustered settlement in the townland of Darragh More has not been identified. Possible settlement described c. 1698 as 'this town or village of Daragh is said to have been one of the Ancientest Towns of Ireland, & sd. to be one of the Seaven Cities thereof' (Jackson 1945, 146).
