What is recorded here

Indicated is a ruined fairy fort in County Cork, its shallow bank buried under trees and forgetting. What remains is a circular shadow on level ground, large enough to hold a household but no longer shaped like one. The land has taken back the edge, leaving only the suggestion of a room built for someone who has stopped returning.
On level ground in pasture c. 50m N of stream. Slightly raised circulararea (30.4m N-S; 31m E-W) defined by earthen bank (H 0.5m), severely disturbed by tree planting. Interior overgrown, sloping gently to W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
