Enclosure in Culliagh

Located in a slight dip or hollow on elevated rough, stony pasture. Not indicated on the 1838 and 1919 OS 6-inch maps. Included on RMP (1997) as 'earthwork' on the basis of an aerial photograph (SMR file: GSI M 681 -0; Roll 218, pr. 5). It consists of a roughly square, stone-built structure (max. dim. 9-10m). The enclosing wall is largely collapsed to a jumble (Wth c. 3m) of small and medium-sized stones but short sections of drystone masonry remain in situ at NE (H 1.55m), NW and S (H 1.75m), preserving the N and S angles of the structure. There is a break (Wth 2.9m) where the E angle should be, and the W angle has also collapsed. The interior is obscured by dense overgrowth of ferns, brambles and blackthorn.
