Cratloekeel Castle stands in County Clare as a tower house, its stones marked by the kind of endurance that belongs to Clare rather than display. It may have served as a home, a watchpost or a boundary marker for the people who lived beside it, though the exact shape of that role has faded. What remains is a small, stubborn structure in the landscape, the sort of place where human ambition and local weather have been arguing for centuries.

Built in the late 16th or early 17th century, Cratloekeel Castle was likely held by the O'Donovan family, a Gaelic Irish clan of the region. It is remembered as an example of a small defensive tower house reflecting the turbulent political landscape of west Clare during the late medieval period.
