What is recorded here

Cratloe Castle stands ruined in County Clare, a stripped tower house reduced to ghost limbs rather than a room you can enter. It is the kind of place that stops a car on a bad road, not because it is grand, but because it is still angular and unwilling to become ordinary. What is missing is easier to imagine than what remained: a family, a fire, a door that closed behind someone who believed the wall would hold.
