Myles De Courcey built Ringrone Castle in 1225 to guard the Kinsale port, creating a martial anchor for his family until the early sixteenth century. Spanish soldiers later occupied the stones before the Battle of Kinsale, subjecting the structure to severe cannon fire that stripped away most of its grandeur. Today only the western wall and part of the north wall remain, marking a quiet field where violent history still echoes beneath the grass.
