Skeagh Cairn is a flat-topped stone ring, nineteen metres across and two metres high, built around 3000 BC near Skibbereen. Tradition holds that people gathered there at midwinter, when darkness reaches further and fire or witness matters more. The stones still form an unbroken circle, inviting that old human instinct to mark time, remember loss, and share light with strangers.
