Crannog in Coolcronoge

Crannog

What is recorded here

Coolcronoge still carries the name Cúil Chrannóige, meaning corner of the crannog, though no structure remains visible to prove the words. The townland itself becomes the evidence, preserving a lost island house in its own sound. Whatever stood there has sunk, rotted or been taken, but the corner still points toward it.
The evidence for the existance of a crannog in this townland is entirely reliant on the townland name: Cúil Chrannóige (corner of the crannog). Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 20 August 2012

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
