What is recorded here

Gallán is a 1.7m rectangular standing stone on a south-facing pasture slope in County Cork, aligned northeast to southwest with packing stones still visible at its base. It resisted the 1842 survey, staying outside the official map while local land and memory continued around it. Someone may have set it where sunlight, shadow and horizon could be read together, making the ordinary field into a place of attention.

Not shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map. In pasture, on S-facing slope. Stone (H 1.7m; 1.45m x 0.5m) is rectangular in plan, with packing stones exposed at base; long axis NE-SW.
