Standing stone in Cool

Standing stone

What is recorded here

No visible monument in Cool matches the unnamed gallaun written in the CKFC (1944). That absence is the shape of the claim: a stone may have stood, been broken, buried or never recorded at all. The story warned by the fact is that memory can point to a hole as often as it points to a pillar.
The gallaun noted by the CKFC (1944) is not known locally, and its precise location has not been identified. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 146. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 4 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
