Road

This togher (exposed L 11.5m; Wth 1.1m) was composed of closely set longitudinal small and large brushwood and twigs, and was orientated NW-SE (Dunne 2002g, 205). There were also occasional small brushwood transverses. Adjacent fields had been milled to a lower level. Originally recorded as 19A and 19B (Dunne 1999, 46, 99DD0019A-B). 19A: was located to the W of a drain, on the field surface, and was being milled. It consisted of tightly packed brushwood (diam. 0.01-0.03m) at least two layers thick; it was orientated E-W but turned to NNW-SSE at W. Some of the brushwood pieces were larger and may have been part of a substructure. 19B: 10.5m to the W consisted of three to four pieces of brushwood (diam. 0.02-0.04m; L 0.5m max.; Wth of exposure 0.5m) oriented NW-SE.
