Burnt mound in Clooncolry

Situated on an E-facing slope overlooking a bog. First identified in centre-line testing (05E0983) for a new line of the N4 (O’Connor et al. 2005, 27), and later fully resolved (E003295) as a part of Clooncolry 1. An area of burnt and broken stone (dims 6m x 5.5m; T 0.05-0.18m) had been truncated by later drains on almost every side and may have been a redeposit. It overlay an oval trough (dims 1.5m x 1.2m; D 0.08-0.24m) filled with a sandy layer over a more stoney one which produced a C14 date of 3765+-39 (2300-2030 cal. BC).
