Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cloonbarry

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cloonbarry is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Cloonbarry, County Sligo, Ireland. The site occupies pasture on a rise but no longer shows at ground level. The 1914 map drew a circular area thirty-five metres wide with a south-east entrance, preserving the shape that soil and grass have since hidden.
In pasture, on a rise. This possible rath is not visible at ground level. It is indicated on the 1914 OS 6-inch map as a hachured circular area (diam. c. 35m) with an entrance at SE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008
