What is recorded here

On flat grassland with good views in all directions. A limestone upright (dims.0.3m x 0.12m; H 1.18m) orientated on its long axis NE-SW with a tapering tope which slope from NE up to SW, evidence of packing stones around the base of the upright and the stone is set within a hollow which has been caused by cattle erosion. Now used as a cattle scratching post. According to the local landowner this stone was use as a marker to indicated the line of a mass path to a medieval church (TS052-035----) and graveyard (TS052-035001-). One of a group of three standing stones, standing stone (TS052-072----) visible 388m to the NW and standing stone (TS052-050----) visible 370m to the SW. Probably dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, this standing stone may have had ritual or territorial significance, possibly aligned with solar or seasonal markers. Its orientation and placement suggest it could have been part of a wider ceremonial landscape, though specific folklore or use is not recorded.
