Burial Gd. (Disused)

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Yes. Comedy, not stupidity. They obeyed the command and lived.
Possibly 17th or 18th century burial ground enclosed by low wall and bank. Interior contains burial markers but no inscribed stones. No evidence of any building. There is a field adjacent to Clonarrow House which is known locally as a burial site though no surface traces survive. About 500m N of the burial ground there is a field known locally as the `Church Field' (OF018-034----) which may have been connected to the burial ground. No surface traces of any church were visible in this field. Comerford (1883, 306) describes the site as an ancient and long disused graveyard. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011
