On a rise, on the W side of the Cloch River, on the valley floor. According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 2, 189-90), ‘the first church in the present graveyard of Clough was built in the 13th century’, however, he continues to say that no trace of the original church of Clough now remains. The present RC church dates to the 18th century and is roughly centrally placed within an irregularly shaped graveyard (dims. 77m N-S; 137m E-W), though on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map the NE and S boundary are curving. There are many 18th-century headstones within the graveyard, the earliest mentioned by Carrigan (ibid.) dates to 1706. The graveyard has continued to be used and there are a lot of 19th and 20th-century headstones. The graveyard was subsequently extended into a rectangular field to the E.
