Freestanding First World War memorial, erected c.1930. Tapered eight-sided ashlar limestone column, topped with cross and supported on four-sided plinth, over three-stepped octagonal-plan base. Each face of pedestal inscribed with names of former pupils of the Royal Hibernian Military School, who died in 'The Great War 1914-1918'. School crest and motto 'Fear God, Honour the King' located at base of octagonal column. Centrally located on grassy forecourt in front of Saint Mary's Hospital, formerly the Royal Hibernian Military School.

A simple memorial cross, dedicated to the former pupils of the Royal Hibernian Military School who died in the First World War. It serves as an important reminder of this internationally significant event but also of the former function of what is now Saint Mary's Hospital. The Royal Hibernian Military School was established in 1766 for the education of the children of deceased soldiers and those on foreign duty.
