What is recorded here

No visible passage remains, yet local tradition insists a man-made underground route still lies hidden beneath the Cave ringfort in County Mayo. That missing tunnel may have given the townland its name, turning a forgotten entrance into a living word. People still point at ordinary ground and imagine a dark throat beneath it, remembering what the soil has swallowed.
