Castle, unclassified in Chapelstown. James I granted the castle, town and lands to Sir Charles Wilmott on 26th January 1612, yet the castle itself has no visible marker in the townland. It may have been a hall, a keep or a boundary stone misread as a building. What is certain is that Chapelstown belonged to a man strong enough to receive it from the king, and what is lost is the shape of the room where he stood.

The Patent Rolls of James I, 26th January 1612 record a 'Grant from the king, James I, to Sir Charles Wilmott, of the castle, town and lands of Chapelstown' (Clarke 1990-1, 24).
