What is recorded here

Indicated is a 35-metre circular platform on flat Galway pasture, barely raised above the grass but still distinct enough to mark as a designed tree-ring. It lies within the former demesne of Castle Ffrench, where a darker northern band of vegetation may be the ghost of an outer ditch and an eastern pit may be quarrying rather than ancient work. The circle has lost most of its trees and much of its shape, yet it still suggests that people once arranged land into a visible form, perhaps for beauty, boundary or ceremony.

On flat pastureland within the former demesne of Castle Ffrench. Marked on OS 6-inch maps as a circular tree-planted enclosure. What survives is a poorly preserved circular platform (D 35m) defined by a slight scarp (H 0.2m). Traces of a possible external fosse, indicated by a darker band of vegetation, are visible at N. The interior has been cleared of trees; a pit in E half is probably the result of quarrying. Possibly a tree-ring.
