Crannog

What is recorded here

Edwards Isd. is a crannog in Carrowntlieve,turrock, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies the north-western end of the Lough Croan turlough as a circular grass-covered mound roughly twenty-six metres across. A north-west to south-east drain now cuts through the site, leaving a smaller grass-covered summit where some animal bone remains visible.
Towards the NW end of the Lough Croan turlough (dims c. 3 km NW-SE; c. 200-300m NE-SW). Circular grass-covered mound (diam. 26.7m NE-SW; 25.6m NW-SE; H 0.4-1m) now bisected by a NW-SE drain that has added material to the summit (diam. c. 16m; H 0.4-0.9m) and is now grass-covered, but some animal bone is evident.
