What is recorded here

Grave Yard holds Carrigleamleary parish church ruins and worn headstones beside a County Cork road. The church moved there around 1715, so the graves likely appeared shortly after that change. People may have carried dead bodies across open country before settling on this smaller ground. Now rubbish and vegetation compete for the same space, turning a sacred boundary into a forgotten dump.

On E side of road. Rectangular graveyard (c. 40m ENE-WSW; c. 30m NNW-ESE) with ruin of C of I parish church of Carrigleamleary (14705) forming part of N boundary. Much overgrown and no longer in use; headstones, in poor repair, date from mid-18th to late 19th century. Much of graveyard now used as dump. Earlier site of parish church c. 500m to S (14401); moved to present location c. 1715 (see 14705) and graveyard unlikely to be much older than this date.
