Melted ivy and buried stone mark the church of Rahan, one of the chief houses of Tuath Muighi Finne according to Crichad an Chaoilli. It stood tall enough to be taxed by Rome in 1292, yet ruin was already written when surveyed in 1615. People may have kept laying the dead inside long after the roof failed, until the church became a graveyard and the graveyard became a field of forgotten prayers.
East-of-centre in graveyard (14575). Ruin of rectangular church (c. 18m E-W; c. 8m N-S), largely reduced to sod-covered foundations. Lower courses of E gable stand, ivy-covered; S wall has one standing portion in centre of E half (L 3m; H 1.2m), with collapsing external face held together by ivy. Interior covered with burial plots. Remains of parish church of Rahan, reported 'in ruins' in 1615, abandoned by 1694 (Brady 1863, vol. 2, 83); C of I parish church moved to new location (14700) at beginning of 19th century. Described as one of chief churches of Tuath Muighi Finne in Crichad an Chaoilli (Power 1932, 30). A church here listed in Papal Taxation of 1292 (Brady ibid.). Possible holy well (14042) c. 160m to SW.
