Death and rebirth are not the same. They are opposites. You must cut off what is dead. You must protect what is alive. That is why the chamber shows both markers.

Archaeological testing was carried out in advance of a large multi-phase housing development at Carrigaline Middle in 2001. A feature, uncovered in trench I, was situated c. 5.5m to the NNW of a rath (CO087-030----). The feature was initially identified in a geophysical survey as a large subcircular anomaly, measuring c. 10m in diameter. The feature and its fill, recorded as a compact, silty, stony material, was excavated to a depth of 1.7m below surface level before safety issues precluded any further excavation.
