What is recorded here

Indicated occupied a Galway meadow as a small fort, marked on the 1838 map with a road circling most of its edge and remembered locally as a fortified place. It has since disappeared beneath an ordinary farm pit, leaving no visible trace for a visitor to touch or judge. What remains is a shape in the land and a name that points to loss, inviting imagination rather than proof.

In meadowland. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as an irregular field (c. 32m E-W; c. 27m N-S) with a roadway running around it from W to NE. On the 1929 revision it is shown as a field boundary curving from SSE through W to NNE and open on the E side. According to local information, there was a 'small fort' here.
