Ancient burial place. Ballygown, County Cork. One acre west of the townland, hidden beneath rock and scrub. People died there before written memory, and the earth kept them without marking the exact spot.
According to Grove White (1905-25, vol. 1, 194), about an acre of ground at W side of townland, covered with rock and scrub, traditionally known as 'ancient burial place'. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000).
