Bullaun stone in Knocklishen Beg

Bullaun stone

What is recorded here

Knocklishen Beg holds a graveyard where two plain granite crosses stand beside a single basin bullaun. The stone lacks grand carving, yet its worn cup suggests repeated use, perhaps for water, oil or prayer. People may have touched that hollow before leaving the dead to quiet earth, turning a small act into a bridge between the living and the forgotten.

A bullaun stone with a basin, associated with early Christian crosses in a graveyard, likely dates to the early medieval period and may have had ritual or practical use, such as for ritual washing or as a font. Such stones often carry symbolic or spiritual significance within local Christian traditions.
