Polished marble funerary monument, erected c.1897, situated in the graveyard of Braddocks Presbyterian church. Dedicated to Rev. James McAskie. Round-plan carved grey marble column on square-plan granite plinth with chamfered corner, inscribed with dedication to McAskie to east elevation. Carved fret ornament to top of shaft, surmounted by carved marble acorn with inscribed foliage. Located to west end of graveyard, flanked by contemporaneous pointed-arch gravestones.

This late nineteenth-century funerary monument is of obvious artistic value, and contrasts pleasingly in style and materials to the plainer monuments of this Presbyterian graveyard. Braddocks Presbyterian Church dates to c.1800, following the split of the community of nearby Clontibret First Presbyterian Church in 1798. The two Presbyterian communities were re-united in 1905 and the two churches at Braddocks (1800) and Legnacreeve (c.1715) are maintained to this day. This ornate funerary monument adds interest to the graveyard, prominently located near the main entrance west of the church. Reverend McAskie would have played an important role in the local community and this type of monument is a common type for esteemed members of the Presbyterian community in Monaghan.
