What is recorded here
Booleenshare holds a man-made passage inside a ringfort, marked as a cave on the 1842 map but erased by 1916. It may have been a hideplace, a drain or a forgotten room, shaped by human hands rather than water. The disappearance from later mapping does not remove the passage; it only joins the many ordinary wonders that stop being repeated and become hard to find.
Marked as 'cave' on the 1842 OS map within the interior of a ringfort (KE014-021----). Not marked on the later 1916 map.
The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 463. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
