Not marked on the 1842 OS map, on the 1916 OS map it is marked as 'Purtaheen'. Situation Description: O'Donovan (OSNB) mentions a holy well in this townland, but he does not give it a name. No trace of this well could be found. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 923. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
