What is recorded here
Field system in Baslick is a field system in Baslick, County Roscommon, Ireland. Rectangular fields measuring roughly 30 by 40 metres radiate from the ecclesiastical enclosure in at least two bands toward the west and north, covering about seven acres. A double-ditched feature approaches the enclosure from the west-northwest, while a wider double-ditched feature outside the outermost boundary probably serves as a droveway toward quarries or ponds south of the graveyard.
The ecclesiastical enclosure (RO021-083003-) recorded in remote sensing by the Discovery Programme during 2009 is surrounded by a field system consisting of rectangular fields (dims c. 30m x. c. 40m) radiating from it in at least two bands, particularly W-N and covering c. 3 ha. (c. 7 acres) (Shanahan 2013, 85-6). An E-W double-ditched feature (Wth c. 5m) approaching the ecclesiastical enclosure from the WNW might be a road or a field bank with two ditches, but a wider double-ditched feature (Wth 12-25m) outside the outermost enclosing element S-W is probably a droveway and leads to the quarries or ponds S of the graveyard.
