Barrow

In undulating pasture, on a low rise. This barrow was levelled during the construction of a farm trackway c. 1991 and is not visible at ground level. According to local information, it consisted of a low flat-topped mound (diam. c. 10m) covered in gorse and brambles. It is one of five barrows in the vicinity (SL038-011----; SL038-012----; SL038-014----; SL038-015----). A Neolithic barrow, likely dating to the Early to Middle Bronze Age, representing a significant but now largely destroyed funerary monument in the Achonry area. Its partial destruction limits further archaeological assessment, but such barrows are often associated with early ritual and burial practices in the region.
