Barrow

On top of a hill, to W of Musherabeg. Circular area (13.3m N-S; 13.5m E-W) defined by earthen bank (H 0.45m); flagstone (0.76m x 0.68m) and two white quartzite stones at centre. According to local information urn found here during turf cutting by Tim Roche c. 1913. 'Coarse flat-bottomed pot' found under blanket bog during investigation by E. Fahy, Department of Archaeology, UCC (Doody 1986, Cork no. 17). Surrounding land planted with young coniferous trees. Ring-barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age. Its central stones and possible urn suggest funerary significance, typical of burial practices in this period.
