Fairy fort in Banefune, County Cork: a circular earthen ringfort on a south-facing slope, now levelled and hidden beneath tillage. Aerial photography still catches the faint shadow of its double ditch, proof the ground remembers what ploughs have erased. People may have lived there, feared it, or simply stopped mowing the grass because the soil felt wrong.

In tillage, on S-facing slope. Depicted with hachures spiralling anti-clockwise from NW to NW to SSE on 1842 OS 6-inch map; as hachured partially levelled bivallate enclosure on 1905 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps. Levelled; no visible surface trace of site. Circular enclosure visible as cropmark of fosse in aerial photograph (CASAP) with faint trace of second fosse to W and N.
