Childrens Burial Ground

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Childrens Burial Ground marks a lost place inside a Galway cashel where young lives may have rested before field rubble buried the trace. The name survived on a 1933 map even though the ground itself disappeared under clearance stones. Forgetting the children is easier than remembering them, which is why the name still points at an empty space.
Within a cashel (GA096-010----). Indicated in name only on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1933). No visible surface trace survives due to dumping of field-clearance rubble in the cashel. (McCaffrey 1952, 149, no. 57) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 6 January 2017
