Two adjacent burnt mounds in Ballyshaneduff reveal rectangular troughs with corner stake-holes and irregular pits beside them. People likely heated water, cooked food or cleaned feathers there before dropping hot stones into the basins. The repeated crashing and steaming would have filled the field with noise, heat and mist.

New monument uncovered during topsoil-stripping in advance of the M7 Heath-Mayfield motorway scheme by Thaddeus Breen under excavation licence number 03E0662. Site was excavated between April and June 2004 and removal of a mound of burnt material revealed two fulachta fia (LA009-045/046) lying adjacent to each other. The two burnt mounds did not overlap, so it was not possible to determine which was the earlier or, indeed whether they were contemporary. This site was described as Fulacht B and consisted of an approx. circular spread of charcoal rich soil and heat-shattered stone, 13m by 1m. Like fulacht A (LA009-045) there wasa rectangular trough with stake-holes in the corners and a large irregular-shaped pit beside this (Bennett 2006, 288).
