What is recorded here

Enclosure in Ballynakill is a low raised platform beside the church and graveyard in County Longford. It may have been a dwelling for the people who kept that sacred place, perhaps an abbey house or an earlier church building. The earth still holds the shape of a room even though the walls are gone.
In the field immediately to the W of the church (LF013-045002-) and graveyard (LF013-045009-). Described in 1975 (SMR file) as a rectangular enclosure (30m E-W; 20m N-S) defined by a low bank. It extended to the W wall of the graveyard and was considered to represent the remains of a possible domestic building associated with the 'abbey' or an earlier church. Present remains consist of a low elevated platform. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 7 December 2012
